Permission requests

If you would like to use any parts of The Gruffalo - text, images or anything related - for any purpose, please note that this is copyrighted and trademarked material, and you will therefore need to request permission from Macmillan Children’s Books. Generally there is a fee for the use of the material.

There are a number of things which we cannot grant permission for, and these include any merchandise, for example the Gruffalo on any clothing or household items, whether for sale or not; food-related requests; and any adaptations or readings of The Gruffalo which change the story or characters from the original. This is not a definitive list.

Event requests

Due to huge demand, Julia and Axel’s diaries are very busy and are often booked up a year or more in advance.

Their events are mainly at larger festivals and they no longer do school events.

Fan Mail

Julia would love to be able to reply to all of her fans but she is so busy writing new stories for you to enjoy that she doesn’t always have the time to reply and answer every single question she gets.

Axel is also very busy illustrating new books.

Charity requests

The Gruffalo has partnered with a number of fitting charities such as Woodland Trust and the Forestry Commission.

Julia and Axel also have a set number of specially selected charities that they work with directly.

Foreign language editions of The Gruffalo

The Gruffalo is published by many international publishers and there are now 70 language editions available!

Signed copies

The publishers do not hold stock of signed copies.

Axel Scheffler illustrations for sale

We are sorry but original artworks of The Gruffalo are not available for sale. On occasion Axel will auction artwork for charities which we will let you know about on the news section of the site or on The Gruffalo Facebook page.
